چکیده

We study a problem of sequential frame synchronization for a frame transmitted uniformly in A slots. For a discrete memoryless channel (DMC), Chandar et al showed in [1] that the frame length N must scale with A as e > A for the frame synchronization error to go to zero (asymptotically with A). Here, Q denotes the transition probabilities of the DMC and α(Q), defined as the synchronization threshold, characterizes the scaling needed of N for asymptotic error free frame synchronization. We show that the asynchronous communication framework permits a natural tradeoff between the sync frame length N and the channel (usually parameterised by the input). For an AWGN channel, we study this tradeoff between the sync frame length N and the input symbol power P and characterise the scaling needed of the sync frame energy E = NP for optimal frame synchronisation.

Localities in systems with a/sync communication

Localities and a/sync places are two recent extensions to the Petri net model. Whereas localities have been introduced as a modelling tool for membrane systems and more general GALS (globally asynchronous locally synchronous) systems, a/sync places make it possible to model synchronous communication between transitions. We investigate the interaction between locally synchronous execution and sy...

Toward Efficient Channel Hopping for Communication Rendezvous in Dynamic Spectrum Access Networks

—We present ETCH, efficient channel hopping based MAC-layer protocols for communication rendezvous in Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA) networks. Compared to the existing solutions, ETCH fully utilizes spectrum diversity in communication rendezvous by allowing all the rendezvous channels to be utilized at the same time. We propose two protocols, SYNC-ETCH, which is a synchronous protocol assuming D...

Patterns for Asynchronous Invocations in Distributed Object Frameworks

The patterns in this paper introduce the four most commonly used techniques for providing client-side asynchrony in distributed object frameworks. FIRE AND FORGET describes besteffort delivery semantics for asynchronous operations that have void return types. SYNC WITH SERVER notifies the client only in case the delivery of the invocation to the server application fails. POLL OBJECTS provide cl...

The Impact of the Asynchronous Online Discussion Forum on the Iranian EFL Students’ Writing Ability and Attitudes

This paper focuses on the impact of an asynchronous online discussion forum on the development of students’ ability in and attitudes toward writing in English. To do this, 60 undergraduate students majoring in English were assigned to two experimental and control groups while receiving different types of feedback. Students in the experimental group were required to take part in an asynchronous ...

Application of symbol avoidance in Reed-Solomon codes to improve their synchronization

In our previous work we introduced a method for avoiding/excluding some symbols in Reed-Solomon (RS) codes, called symbol avoidance. In this paper, we apply the symbol avoidance method to make synchronization of RS encoded data more effective. We avoid symbols in a RS code and then perform conventional frame synchronization on RS encoded data by appending sync-words on the data. The symbols in ...
